Formats and Tournaments

Cricket's three formats and the competitions worth betting on

Cricket is played in three main formats — Test, ODI and T20. Each format has a different style of play, so the betting markets differ as well.

T20 is the fastest format. Each side bats for only 20 overs, so a falling wicket or a big over shifts the odds instantly. BPL (Bangladesh Premier League), IPL and the T20 World Cup are the biggest events in this format. For cricket fans in Bangladesh, BPL is a major occasion — local Tigers stars feature in the competition, which makes it especially popular.

ODI matches give each side 50 overs. The whole match finishes in a single day, so the result is known by evening. ICC events include ODI series and the World Cup.

Test cricket is a five-day game. Fatigue, pitch conditions and weather all play a significant role. A draw is possible in Tests, so the market offers three options: Team A win / Team B win / draw. T20 and ODI matches do not normally end in a draw.

Beyond international series, jet baji covers the ICC Champions Trophy, T20 World Cup and various bilateral series.

jet baji Football and Sports Betting Markets

Alongside cricket, jet baji also offers betting markets on football and other sports. Football betting works a little differently from cricket — a football match lasts ninety minutes and a draw is a normal result. So the market usually has three options: Team A win, Team B win, draw.

In cricket, odds can shift after a single wicket or a big six, whereas in football odds change more gradually based on overall possession until a goal is scored. Betting is also available on tennis, badminton and kabaddi, following the same principle — odds are set based on the relative probability of each side (or player) winning.

Popular Markets

The 6 most popular cricket betting markets

Here is a plain explanation of how each market works.

Match Winner

This market asks which team will win the match. In T20 or ODI there are two options (Team A / Team B); in Tests a third option — draw — is added. The simplest market available.

Simplest
Toss Winner

A bet on which team wins the toss before the match starts. This is entirely down to chance and has no connection to on-field performance. Pitch reports can suggest what the toss-winning team might choose to do, but the outcome itself is random.

Chance-based
Top Batsman

You pick which player will score the most runs in the innings for a specific team. Form, batting order and pitch conditions all play a part in this market.

Statistics-based
Total Runs (Over/Under)

You choose whether the total runs scored in an innings or a specific over will be more (over) or less (under) than a set number. If the pitch favours batting, backing the over is a straightforward argument.

Numbers-based
Multi Bet

Multiple matches or markets are combined into a single bet. If all selections are correct, the return is larger, but if any one selection is wrong the entire bet is lost. Example: combining odds of 1.60, 1.80 and 1.90 from three separate matches gives combined odds of 5.47 — a ৳100 bet returns ৳547 if all three are correct.

High Return
Top Wicket Taker

You pick which bowler will take the most wickets in the match. If the pitch offers swing or spin, the chances of a particular bowler improve — this market depends on bowling performance.

Bowling-based
Understanding Odds

Decimal, fractional and American odds — understanding all three formats together

Different betting platforms display odds in three different ways. The example below shows the same odds in all three formats.

Example 1 — Team A win, stake ৳1,000

Decimal 2.25 = Fractional 5/4 = American +125.
If the bet wins, total return is ৳2,250 (৳1,250 profit + ৳1,000 original stake). If the bet loses, ৳1,000 is gone. Decimal odds show the total return directly; fractional odds show only the profit ratio; and in American odds, a "+" sign means how much profit a ৳100 bet earns.

Example 2 — Favourite Team B win

Decimal 1.50 = Fractional 1/2 = American -200.
In American odds, a "−" sign means how much you need to stake to earn ৳100 profit — here it is ৳200. A ৳1,000 bet returns ৳1,500 (৳500 profit). Favourites have lower odds because they are considered more likely to win.

jet baji normally displays decimal odds, which are the easiest to calculate. For details on betting rules and responsible play, read the Responsible Gaming page.

Real-Time Betting

Live in-play — how odds change during a match

In-play betting lets you place bets after the match has already started. In cricket, the situation changes with every ball, every wicket and at the end of every over, so odds update instantly.

Odds shift when a wicket falls

When a key batsman from the stronger team is dismissed, the odds on the opposition winning shorten. The market reacts quickly based on who comes in next.

A big over moves the odds

If 15–18 runs come off an over, the run rate rises and the over/under line in the total runs market shifts quickly.

Death overs create specific opportunities

The equation of the match changes fast in the final five overs. The total runs and match winner markets are most active during this period.

Make decisions using the scorecard

Following the live score is essential for in-play betting. A good internet connection and close attention to the match help you read the situation better.

Markets are active during the powerplay

Fielding restrictions in the first ten overs of an ODI mean more runs are scored. The over/under market sees a lot of movement during this period.

From anywhere on mobile

Live in-play betting is also available on mobile through the jet baji App. Both Android and iOS versions are available through official channels.

Betting Tips

Some practical advice that can help with cricket betting

01

Set your budget before you start

Betting is a form of entertainment — decide in advance how much you are willing to spend each week and do not go beyond that limit. Placing a large bet to recover a loss is not a good idea.

02

Do not put all your money on one match

Rather than putting your entire budget on one match, split it into smaller bets. Your balance lasts longer and you get to enjoy more matches.

03

Keep the number of selections low in a multi bet

The more selections in a multi bet, the greater the risk. A two- or three-selection multi bet is easier to manage than one with five or six.

04

Stay informed about pitch and weather conditions

Rain can mean the Duckworth-Lewis method decides the result. A grassy pitch gives pacers an advantage — this kind of information is useful for total runs or wicket markets.

05

Always bet responsibly

Betting should be enjoyable, not stressful. If you feel frustrated after a loss, take a break rather than betting again on emotion. Read the responsible gaming guidelines to set your own limits.

Common Questions

Answers to your questions about cricket betting

T20 is only 20 overs per side, so odds shift quickly and there are more markets. ODI is 50 overs — longer, with conditions staying stable for longer. A Test match runs over five days and a draw is a valid result, so the market has three options: Team A win, Team B win and draw. In Tests, pitch wear and the role of spinners grow as the match progresses.

A multi bet combines several selections into one bet. If all selections are correct, the odds are multiplied together. Example: three matches with odds of 1.60, 1.80 and 1.90 give combined odds of 1.60 × 1.80 × 1.90 = 5.47 (approximate). A ৳100 bet returns ৳547 — but if any one selection is wrong, the full ৳100 is lost.

No, live in-play is not limited to major tournaments. You can bet while a match is in progress across BPL, IPL, international series and many other matches. The number of markets and the range of odds do depend on how significant the match is.

With decimal odds, working out your total return is straightforward — multiply your stake by the odds. Example: a ৳1,000 bet on Team A at odds of 2.25 returns ৳2,250 if you win (৳1,250 profit + ৳1,000 original stake). Odds between 1.0 and 2.0 indicate a favourite; odds above 2.0 indicate an underdog.

If a match is abandoned or the required number of overs is not completed due to rain, bets are generally voided and stakes returned. However, if a result is determined using the Duckworth-Lewis method, bets are settled on that result. Check the terms and conditions for specific rules.
